Previously it was acceptable to restrict the brine flow by simply throttling the discharge flow from the pump or to open a bypass valve. This can be counterproductive as it artificially elevates the head on the pump to meet the required duty with a considerable loss in efficiency and or excess power consumption with increased mechanical load on the pumps.
