Energy Efficiency: A key ingredient in the success of your winery

In challenging and uncertain economic times, the majority of commercial refrigeration equipment is installed to meet an initial budget with often little regard given to the efficiency of the plant. Unfortunately, the result can be a significant impact on the financial success of your business across the lifetime of the equipment.

Even though the plant may contain the best quality equipment and satisfy your current refrigeration requirements a poorly engineered system will not operate efficiently – using excessive power, resulting in you paying far more for your refrigeration energy needs than you should.

Refrigeration plant have a high demand for energy. Therefore, even a small improvement in the efficiency of the equipment results in a significant reduction in both the energy costs and the carbon footprint of your business.

Is investing in energy efficiency worth it?

Yes. It is often assumed that the investment in equipment efficiency upgrades will present a further financial burden. However, in most instances the cost of the efficiency upgrade can be redeemed in as little as 2-5 years with the savings continuing for the remaining life of the equipment.

Investing in energy efficiency is a sound investment.

Energy Efficient Technology for your Winery

The Clements Brichil Winery Brine Pump marries technology, customization and energy-efficient operation as its top priorities.

The duty of the main winery brine circulation pumps can vary significantly from as little as 10% to a full 100% of the demand. Previously it was acceptable to restrict the brine flow by simply throttling the discharge flow from the pump or to open a bypass valve. This can be counterproductive as it artificially elevates the head on the pump to meet the required duty with a considerable loss in efficiency and or excess power consumption with increased mechanical load on the pumps.

With the the use of the variable (frequency) speed drives in the Clements Brichil applications the speed of the pump can be varied to match the demand from the winery with the energy consumption proportional to actual load.

The use of variable speed drives within the wine making industry provides some significant energy saving advantages to that of fixed speed operation of pumps, fan and compressors due to the wide variation in demand from the refrigeration plant throughout the year.

If you’d like to make improvements to the energy-efficient operation of your winery, Brichil refrigeration technology may be the solution for you.
